Narrator: Somehow, somewhere, Stefan Lajoie was brought into a company to save a dying art. It wasn’t a world championship this time, or a stable, it was something he hadn’t expected.
They needed someone to save their Tag Team Championships. So, when they contacted Stefan, he made only one phone call: to the only other man he’d allow to have his back in an endeavor like this: Kurt Fucking Newman.
Do you blame him? Stefan Lajoie has been to hell and back, figuratively and literally during his career, and Kurt Newman has consistently had his back. Even when they were fighting over World Champions or women, Stefan and Kurt knew that their best ally was each other. They had other allies and team mates, brothers, long term friends and gal pals, but Kurt and Stefan, their “bromance” if you will, was harder to ignore than a whore in church.
And when Stefan retired, Kurt chose to travel the world. Becoming world wide famous, Kurt kept his name out there, and Stefan chose a life of being a talent scout and an agent, all the while keeping their former fed underground and alive.
And now? The comeback. No matter what happens with this, Stefan and Kurt can know one thing is certain: the world WILL KNOW that there is a Pro Wrestling: Uprising, and the One Percent is leading the charge. Because when all else is gone, who else would you expect to lead you? The itty bitty titty club? The spot monkey brothers? The jock-em sock-em robots? No. Your leaders need to be charismatic, iconic, and the absolute best in the world.
And that’s what The One Percent are. They don’t bow to the precendent that you need to be brothers or similar in style or attitude. They accept who they are, they work together, and they go around the world, fighting, training, and being the best we can. There’s never a day taken off, there’s never a day without improval, and there’s never a day without, simply, being The One Percent.
So go ahead and say what you will about them. “They’re a mish-mashed team that doesn’t belong.” “They’re not “real” competition.” “They’re not “authentic.”” “They’re not “good enough.”” All of that bull shit, all of those lies, all of that nonsense is nothing compared to the true lingering threat to the professional wrestling industry as a whole.
Tag Team Wrestling needs saviors, and Kurt Newman and Stefan Lajoie? That’s what they are here for. They’re here to save tag team wrestling, just like they took the ECCWF and built an uprising out of it. Just like Kurt is showing Japan just what they really are capable of and competing against. And just like how they’re going to show all of you, that it is not just about being a plucky tag team from some random part of the world with decent backing to be a tag team. You have to know this business, you have to know this art, you have to know this lifestyle.
And, in their humble opinion, Kurt Newman and Stefan Lajoie know that better than anybody else in this thing. Look around at the competition, if you can even call it that. Tag teams that are trying too hard, tag teams that aren’t trying hard enough, tag teams that think they can intimidate by force or by gore, tag teams that are spending too much time in fantasyland, and tag teams that are probably better off IN that fantasy land. Kurt and Stefan, they are realists and they enter into every scenario with an unflinching aura around them. You can’t fuck with their minds, you can’t make them doubt each other, and you cannot and will not stop them from achieving their goal.
And their goal is simple: they will be the best. They will not stop until both men are dead on the side of the road, because that is what it will take to defeat them. They will not quit, because that word is not in their vocabulary. Ladies and gentlemen, this month of April is dedicated to tag team wrestling, and Stefan Lajoie and Kurt Newman are here to do two things: be the absolute best, and to show all of you what real tag team wrestling looks like. Prepare yourself for the end, because it is coming. And you will all fall, because they are The One Percent.
And well, you aren’t.
Look around at yourselves again, really, give it a hard look, and ask yourself the hardest questions you’ll ever ask yourself, if you really dare. Are you willing to actually put in the time, effort, and energy to be the absolute best versions of yourself you possibly can? No, you’re not. You’re still searching to find out who you really are. You think that you, in those current in-transition selves, will lead you to greatness, but realistically you’re not even half ready for the future. Kurt Newman and Stefan Lajoie are fully evolved, fully realized icons, and they are prime for any opportunity they can take. These men can carry companies on their shoulders with minimal effort, and be undefeated for years at a time with maximum effort.
Are you ready to see your future? Ask yourself the question again, and when it takes you just a second longer, just a second more to come up with the answer, the same lie of an answer that you tried to give yourself for encouragement just a second ago, take a moment to truly realize something. You will never be ready for the future, because every second that ticks away, you are fighting to remain who you are.
And Stefan Lajoie and Kurt Newman? They are fighting to become who they were destined to be, who they will be:
The One Percent.
See you there.
