The streets of Japan are busy with various businessman and civilians walking. In the middle of it is Anastasia Hayden, looking a bit out of place in the frame of things. She stops briefly, taking a look at a flyer advertising the Tag-Team-Tropolis at the Nippon Budokan, roughly a half hour walk away. She smirked before looking at the camera, now closing in on her, and started to walk again. She pushes away the outside world and focused solely on the camera, thinking of her opening words carefully.
“Not too much longer, huh? Let me say this to everyone out there watching. Terry McKenna may not be the wisest guy out there, but he did a good job in bringing me out to Japan. It’s too early to say if I’ll stay in Japan after we win this tournament, but when I get that GPC World Tag Team Championship around my waist, you can guarantee you’ll see me more. That belt is destined to be mine. After we breeze through the first round, the rest of the tournament is easy. No one is going to be able to stop Terry and myself. That’s just a fact. We can all pretend that these teams who don’t know each other have a fair chance, but I’m not going to lie to you. There’s only one team in this tournament people need to be watching. That’s us. And I refuse to say our team name anymore.”
Any form of a smile disappeared at the thought of the “Bloody Best Friends” team that Terry signed them up with.
“Last week was the first time I’ve been in the ring with Terry. And we won. Not like there was any doubt about us winning anyways. Do we have the experience? No. Do we need it? No. The fact is that I’m the best competitor that New Japan Fighting Championship will ever see. If I’m willing to team with Terry McKenna, you need to understand he’s one of the best at what he does too. He’s a bumbling idiot, but he gets the job done. That’s all we’re doing. This is a job for us and that pay window is going to see us leave Japan with the tag championships. We’re not some unique team either. Not the first team that doesn’t see eye-to-eye and we won’t be the last, but you know what? We’ll be the best.”
She says those last four words with pure confidence; no cockiness or arrogance showing on her face.
“I’ve sat back and taken a look at a lot of the teams here. I’ve never seen any of these losers wrestle, but I know who they are. There’s not a name on the list that makes me doubt my abilities. There are a lot of names on the list that make me question why NJFC would bring them in, but I guess every tournament needs teams like that. There’s someone in this tournament that I do know somewhat. Bryan Williams insists on calling himself my ‘friend’, but he’s not. Just like a lot of people in this, he’s delusional. That’s the kind of wrestler we’re facing. Delusional people who really, REALLY think they can beat me? Forget Terry for a minute. None of these idiots could beat me in a singles match, so what makes you think they’ll do any better in a tag match?”
A scoff escaped from Ana’s mouth, a brief look of disbelief on her face before returning to the familiar cold glare of hers.
“I’m not losing sleep over this. Once that bell rings, any differences Terry and I may have are squashed. I’m a fighter and Terry is a wrestling machine. So ask me if I’m worried about our inexperience. I’m not. We don’t care if we have to face some team that’s been together for a decade. They are not Terry McKenna and Anastasia Hayden. They’re not even worthy of being knock off versions of us. The moment we entered Japan, we made our claim as the best tag team in the country. After we hoist up the GPC World Tag Team Championships as ours, we’ll go on and defend it against anyone who calls for us. We’re not afraid of anyone in this tournament and we sure as hell aren’t afraid of anyone outside of it.”
An arrogant smirk appears on Ana’s face at the prospect of defending the titles against anyone, her confidence starting to make a presence in her voice.
“There is no dream team. There is no underdog. There’s no Cinderella story. The only thing that’s a guarantee is us winning. I didn’t come here to impress or make friends. I came here to fight and win. I’m going to be pissed off if I don’t leave Japan without a fight. I don’t even need those belts. I just want a fight. I want blood, I want to break someone’s nose, I want a FIGHT! And if I don’t get that? I’ll just settle for the GPC World Tag Team Championship instead.”
Perhaps as an homage to her tag partner and something a bit out of character for her, Ana popped the collar of her Lonsdale jacket before walking past the camera and the scene fades to black.
