"You come out swinging, hitting that hard, no one is going to be left standing", Nick Madison said with his back against the ring ropes. With another series of matches on the horizon, Chris Madison was killing himself inside the training ring at the Warehouse, his wrestling school and training facility. His younger brother, and head trainer, was decked out in sparring pads: a chest protector, a helmet, shin pads, and punching mitts.
Chris dropped his hands down to his sides as one of the students rushed in with a bottle of water, squirting it into his wide open mouth. "Should be the last time that I'm preparing for more than one match at a time. Paperwork has been sent in, signatures and all", he advised Nick while grinning from ear to ear.
Nick began to disrobe the sparring equipment. "For the first time in months you seem genuinely happy", he mentioned, noting the change in his older brothers demeanor. "I'm glad you settled on a company but you still have two fights ahead of you against some serious talent", he added.
"Yeah, I gotcha", he said while pulling his hands free from the heavy bag gloves he used to spar with.
"No, I'm serious. Brian Hollywood, despite his current state of mind, is no joke. Then three days later you're in a triple threat match against Mark Storm and Maddox Lucien, each a viable opponent in their own right", Nick reasoned, trying to steer his brother focus in the right direction.
"I'm not taking any of these guys lightly", he apprised Nick of while stepping through the ring ropes and sitting down on the apron. Nick pulled off the final shin pad and then followed suit, dropping down right next to his brother. He hands off a towel, exchanging it for a bottle of water without uttering a sound. "I take every match serious, always giving my opponents every ounce of fight I have in me. I hope Lucien and Storm approach this match the same way", he continued while wiping the sweat that had accumulated on his brow.
"I don't think you have to worry about what kind of fight these guys are bringing to the table. Your reputation, that streak, it's pushing guys beyond their limits whenever they step in the ring with you", Nick disclosed after tossing back a swig of water. "Take Maddox Lucien for example. He sought out this match, lobbying for it since the beginning of August when Morrison took to twitter and said you'd be ready for anyone at the next NJFC show. There's no doubt in my mind that he's going to give you everything he's got in the tank and then some!"
"Maddox Lucien", Madison smirked as the name rolled off of the tip of his tongue. "Maddox Lucien emerged into the spotlight during that Manifest Destiny tournament, defeating Mohammad Al-Thani and Mark Smart before being outclassed by Brennan Devlin. His 4CW rap sheet doesn't read much better. Up until last week, he's looked like a huge bust! But anyone that beats Dakota Smith, clean, in the center of that ring, should be taken seriously. The question is, which Maddox Lucien shows up to the Fukuoka Kokusai Center? He's going to be taking part of that tag tournament 4CW is running the same night I defend my 4CW Pride Championship against Brian Hollywood. If he and his partner go deep into that tournament, he may not recover quick enough to be one hundred percent for our triple threat match three days later."
"That'll definitely take a toll on his body", Nick agreed. "But don't discredit his resiliency. A win over you, even if its on foreign territory, would establish him as a major player in the 4CW scene. If he wants it bad enough, he'll fight through the aches and the exhaustion."
Maddox Lucien wasn't Chris's only opponent at NJFC's Road to Glory event. In fact, the third participant of this triple threat match is a name that has really caught Chris's attention over the last couple of months. "Resiliency is going to determine the winner of this match. Lucien and I both are competing three nights before in St. Louis and then flying out to Japan. But Mark Storm, man that guys is fucking busy", Chris exclaimed. "Just listen to this schedule: tonight he's at MSG for Honor Wrestling against Justin Spirit, September third it's Irvine, California against Evan Envi for FGA, September fourth he's booked TWICE; for UKWF in London, England against MJ Bell and for #FSociety Wrestling in a six-man TLC match with their Anarchy Championship on the line. It doesn't stop there. September seventh, Coney Island, New York, he's up against David Manson for Vintage Wrestling Club; a man I just defeated..."
"So he's competing three days before your match, just like you and Lucien", Nick interrupted.
"Wait, I wasn't done... September tenth, obviously the night of our triple threat, he's also scheduled for a Championship Wrestling from Texas card in San Angelo, Texas, against Benny Stevens", Chris continued.
Nick was astonished by the workload that Chris had just listed, baffled by some of the bookings. "How", was the only word that could escape his gaping mouth.
"Beats the hell out of me. I'm a big fan of his work; he's one talented wrestler, but that travel schedule alone will break a man down. Factor in the punishment his body is going through every time he steps into a ring, I'm astonished that he's not living the life of a vegetable", Chris explained while shaking his head from side to side.
"Seriously! Does this guy have a death wish", Nick half-jokingly quizzed.
"Maybe, maybe not. If he does, he's finally found himself an opponent who'll grant him that wish. Unlike others, I don't think Mark Storm sucks; but that doesn't mean I won't take his career away from him! NJFC raised the bar this time around, putting serious talent in the ring with me", Madison admitted as he scratched at his scruffy beard. "That night will be no different than the last thirteen months... I will decimate anyone that is foolish enough to climb through those ropes and stay in the ring long enough for that opening bell to ring!"
