PRIDE OF PURORESU CROWN: NIGHT EIGHT
GROUP B
GROUP B
Bryan Laughlin vs. Jason Cashe
Going into night eight, Jason Cashe has made relatively quick work of his opponents throughout the tournament; none of his three matches pushing fifteen minutes long. Bryan Laughlin, a man that Cashe knew all too well, proved to be a much tougher out than his previous three opponents. From the second the opening bell rang, it was apparent that these two knew what the other had planned. They traded holds, wrist locks, hammerlocks, and side headlocks, each being countered before the other could build any momentum. Finally Cashe got the upperhand after pushing Laughlin into the corner with a collar and elbow tie up and catching him with a headbutt as the official tried to break them apart. Cashe staggered back from the corner, feeling some effects from the headbutt himself, but followed up with a bell clap to Laughlin as he stumbled forward. Cashe was able to maneuver behind Laughlin as his ears rang and dragged him backwards with a Russian leg sweep. Cashe hovered over Laughlin and began to swing wildly with both hands, forcing Bryan to try his best and cover up. Cashe backed up and let Laughlin rise to his feet, only to drop him with three straight clotheslines. Finally Jason snatched Laughlin from behind and slammed him down with a cobra clutch slam which netted him a mere one count from the official.
After the failed pin attempt Cashe kept the pressure on his opponent, with a series of suplexes until Laughlin was able to counter a double underhook into a back body drop. As Cashe rose to his feet, he was hit with a superkick that knocked him back into the corner. Laughlin followed his opponent into the corner and lit him up with a series of rights and lefts before picking him up, turning him upside down, and trapping his feet under the top turnbuckle. Laughlin teed off with a series of kicks to the exposed ribs of Cashe before circling away to the center of the ring. Laughlin charged and slid feet first with a baseball slide that hit the mark! Cashe fell from the corner and as he tried to push up off of the mat, Laughlin hopped onto his back, securing his hooks around Cashe’s body and locked in a piggyback full nelson. Cashe staggered around the ring but eventually fell down to mat with his opponent relentlessly holding on. Cashe landed close enough to the ropes that he was able to get a foot on the bottom rope to force the break.
Laughlin waited for Cashe to rise to his feet and was caught off guard with a forearm smash to the mouth. Laughlin took a step back, checked his lips with his fingertips, saw blood and smiled. Laughlin countered with a European Uppercut and then the two immediately began exchanging blows in the center of the ring. Cashe began to reel and then reached forward out of desperation, grabbed Laughlin with both hands by the side of the head and pulled him in close enough to bite his forehead. The official stepped in to separate the two and Cashe immediately took advantage with a discus clothesline that turned Laughlin inside out! As Laughlin tried to rise to his feet, he decided to launch himself forward for a double leg takedown, but Cashe was quick to cinch in a guillotine choke. Laughlin, the more technical of the two, was able to work an escape. He rained down with a few short forearm shots before flipping Cashe over, locking in a full nelson, and pulling him to his feet. He dragged him towards one of the corners and threw Cashe into the turnbuckles with a full nelson suplex! The pin attempt the followed drew a two count that arena thought was three!
Cashe rolled out of the ring to collect himself but Laughlin knew he had to keep the pressure up. He followed Cashe out of the ring and ended up behind him as Cashe pulled himself up to his feet with the help of the ring post. Laughlin drove his forearm into Cashe’s lower back and then lifted him up with an atomic drop. Instead of dropping him down onto his knee, Laughlin took a few steps back towards the ringpost and threw him into the steel! Laughlin re-entered the ring and watched as the official began his count. Looking like a surefire countout victory, Laughlin raised his hands above his head, not seeing that Cashe rolled himself into the ring at nine. Laughlin frustratingly marched back over to Cashe, grabbed the ropes and began to stomp away at his sternum. Laughlin stepped back and let Cashe up to his feet. He charged for a lariat but Cashe ducked underneath and immediately leaped up, catching Laughlin with his U.T.I jumping neckbreaker! Cashe draped an arm across Laughlin’s chest but only got a two count out of it!
Cashe was up to his feet a split second before Laughlin. Laughlin charged and Cashed dropped down and pulled on the top rope, making way for Laughlin to tumble over the ropes. Laughlin landed on the apron and was quick up to his feet. He grabbed the top rope and launched himself into the ring, looking for his Springboard Blockbuster, Special Sauce! Cashe rolled forward and avoided getting caught, but Laughlin landed on his feet. Laughlin turned around and immediately lifted Cashe up onto his shoulders in a fireman’s carry and moved to the center of the ring, looking for G.M.A. Cashe wiggled free and slid down Laughlin’s back. Laughlin turned around and was immediately met with a jumping variant of the Mark of Jason! As Laughlin hit the canvass, the timekeeper rang the bell, signaling that the thirty minute time limit has expired!
