The pair are standing together outside the now closed SCCW facility in Georgetown, Delaware. A warm, sunny Spring day as Harper Hill and Miss Fortune stand in their matching GBH t-shirts and jean shorts. The brunette, Harper, towering over her blonde tag team partner as she gets ready to speak first.
Harper Hill: This is where it all began…
She gestures to the building behind them, speaking in her Estuary English accent. The Londoner smiling as she speaks.
Harper Hill: Where, in January of last year the two of us met each other for the first time. Where in March of last year we got paired together for the first time.
Miss Fortune: It seems like only yesterday.
The Frenchwoman speaks up, her voice softer than her partner. Miss Fortune pushes her hair back over one shoulder as she continues.
Miss Fortune: But SCCW was where GBH began. And where we won our first – and so far, only – tag team titles.
Harper Hill: So far.
Miss Fortune: Until Tag-Team-Tropolis, perhaps. But this was where we, uh, honed our craft. Where we learned most of what we know.
Harper Hill: Week in, week out. From that first match against The Lincolns, all the way through to beating Adam & Chino for those belts last December. This is where we got our start, yeah; the launchpad that saw us go to FGA and NKP. To participate in the HKW Gauntlet, and now, to compete in Tag-Team-Tropolis.
The pair look at each other and nod, wide smiles plastered on both of their faces as they turn back to the camera.
Harper Hill: You see, it’s been a while since we’ve held gold–
She looks towards Miss Fortune, who just shrugs her shoulders. She knows that she’s held singles gold in WXW and SAKURA Pro! since then, which is more than Harper can claim.
Harper Hill: –and now we’ve had a taste, we’re getting hungry again. So if that means we’ve gotta go to Japan and take on eleven of the best teams from around the world?
Miss Fortune: Then that is what we will do. And if we enter this tournament as the, uh, relative unknowns, then so be it. If we are the underdogs, that is ok by us. Because once we step into that ring; when we go up against Zombie Black and Jack Stanton, then the rest of you will come to realise what SCCW and NKP fans have known for a long time.
Harper Hill: That GBH is the next big thing in tag team wrestling, yeah. And we get it, there’s a ton of big names in this tournament. Those we know well like the Small Boob Wrecking Crew or Shootcamp, those we know through notoriety like dPEEg or the Dogs of War.
Miss Fortune: To those who have been making waves in Australia and Japan, and the rest. We see you. But this tournament – Tag-Team-Tropolis – it is our chance to prove ourselves on the big stage.
Harper Hill: And by hook or by crook, we’re gonna take it!
Harper exclaims louder than before. Miss Fortune just nods again, content to let her partner do most of the talking.
Harper Hill: See, we may not be the most experienced team here. Especially not when it comes to tournaments – we entered FGA’s Dynamic Duos last Summer and got eliminated by the eventual winners, but it’s of little solace, you know. And our methods? They aren’t exactly the most conventional. But the two of us? Me and Miss Fortune here? We’re the scrappiest pair of rookies you’ll ever meet.
Miss Fortune: It is true.
Harper Hill: And what people like Jack Stanton and Zombie Black might not expect from us, is that we can give as good as we take. So Thursday night, the 26th of April, they’re gonna step into the ring with us and find out the hard way what GBH is all about. And when – not if! – when we get past them, and go on to the next round–
Miss Fortune: Where dPEEg or the Skull Kids await us…
The pair share a look, pausing for a moment, before bursting out laughing. Harper even slaps her thigh, she finds the joke that amusing.
Harper Hill: Yeah, when we meet dPEEg in the second round, and they’ve got those nice GPC World Tag Team Championships on them, ready to defend against all comers, yeah? That’s when things get really fun. That’s when the NJFC fans get to see what GBH is really capable of! And the rest of you eyeing up those belts; the titles that Jason Cashe and Tommy Knox have held for, what is it, years? We get first crack at ’em!
Miss Fortune: So you hope that we fail in the second round, so the rest of you can stand a chance at becoming champion.
Harper Hill: Hope we fail, so you can tell us we lost to a better team, yeah? A more experienced team! Two of the best tag wrestlers in Japan today, or maybe even in the world. Tell us all about how they beat Shootcamp a few months back, to try and make us feel better…
They pause again, the smiles having faded from their faces as Harper, her top lip curled up in disgust, glares at the camera.
Harper Hill: Spare us. The champs can have all the advantages they want, every other team in this tournament can tell us we aren’t good enough to beat dPEEg, or become GPC World Tag Team Champions. And we’ll tell you that this week, we’re gonna change your minds. Starting with Stanton and Black, then the champions, then whoever else meets us in that ladder match on the final night. You’re gonna see what GBH is all about. And why we’re former SCCW Tag Team Champions. Why Miss Fortune was the SAKURA Pro! Champion, and the WXW Pure Gold Champion. Because wherever we go, we succeed. And gold soon follows. So NJFC, Japan, and the rest of you get ready for a brand new experience, yeah. Because GBH is coming.
Miss Fortune: And pain follows soon after…
With that, Miss Fortune winks at the camera while Harper continues mean-mugging, and the scene comes to an end with the traditional fade to black.
