The lights are bright on Marshall Smith as he sits in front of a camera. The screen behind him is a light grey. Wearing a white t-shirt, Marshall stares into the camera with a determined look on his face as he begins to talk.
Marshall Smith: "You know, when people think of Kurt Newman, they see the love able goofball who just wants to make people happy. But that's just above the surface. You look past that version of him and you'll find a man that takes wrestling extremely serious. I learned this first hand on my very first day of training with him. I was 14 at the time. Scrawny and barely weighing over 100 pounds. We met at 4 in the morning at his gym in Chicago, Illinois to begin our work out. As soon as he stepped through that gym door......the smile and the happy go lucky attitude he usually has went away and we trained till 8 that night. He pushed me. He kicked my ass and tossed me around like a rag doll. Ran for miles while going up and down hills. He pushed me like I've never been pushed before. After that first day my entire body hurt and I was thinking to myself.......if I go back tomorrow, I'm the dumbest mother fucker in the world.......but I did come back. And I came back another day. And again, and again, and again. And I kept on doing this till this very day. Now look at me, 250 with muscles on top of my muscles. All that hard work and determination payed off to what you see today.
Now I grew up with 5 other siblings to a single mother and a dad that was not in the picture. There would be days when I'd go hungry and not even know when I was going to be getting my next meal. Every time I stepped out of my home I never knew if I was going to be shot down because of some gang bang bullshit. I'd wake up in the middle of the night to gun shots right being fired at the house right across from mine. Living in East St Louis was hell and I'm never going back."
Marshall pauses as he looks off in the distance and thinks back to those days in St. Louis. He quickly looks back into the camera and talks again.
Marshall Smith: "Now why am I telling you all this? Because I'm not afraid of anyone or anything. I've seen the worst in this world has to offer and I've been through even worse.....and yet I'm still here. I'm still surviving. I'm here for a purpose and no one.....not Ryan Crew nor Alpluachra is going to stop me from my main goal in life.....and that is to be the very best. I have all the tools and all the God given talent that a wrestler needs. Now I just need to put them into use and set myself a goal. I've got huge goals in mine but I'll keep one goal in reach at this very moment because I still have a lot to learn. So my goal this weekend.....is to win. That's all I need to do right now and that's all I plan on doing. Just win. If I turn a couple of heads with a win. Great. If not, so be it. I'm only going to be getting better."
Marshall pauses as he adjusts himself in the chair and thinks to himself what to say next.
Marshall Smith: "To my opponents this weekend, I hope you're ready because I know I am. I've been waiting for this day since I first started training. To the NJFC roster, I hope you watch. I hope you watch because you're going to be looking at the future of wrestling. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know newbies such as myself say it all the time but they never prove it. I will and I swear to you I will reach greatness in the near future. It's only a matter of time before I'm top dog around here. Just....... you....... watch. And as for the NJFC universe.......get ready. Get ready as I put on match after match that you will never forget."
Marshall Smith slowly stands up and crosses his arms in front of his chest.
Marshall Smith: "My name is Marshall Smith.....and you don't want none of this."
