I must go on standing
You can't break that which isn't yours
I, oh, must go on standing
I'm not my own, it's not my choice
The truth is that Bronx Valescence and Tara Davidson have more in common than they might realize.
This entire match, it's all a part of Bronx's bigger plan to prove himself as a true competitor, and if there's one person who can understand such a desire it would most certainly have to be Tara Davidson. There had been a time for years where she had felt like she was living in the shadow of her husband's success. It had become so consuming of a thought that it made things almost impossible for her to keep on going like she was nothing more than a dutiful wife. She did feel a sense of pride for the accomplishments of her husband. However it also made her feel a deep longing for the kind of accomplishments which she could claim that she had acquired on her own merits.
That kind of driving desire, it can push both men and women to dangerous limits, and once it has been awakened it becomes almost impossible to push it back down to the bottom of your stomach. Tara realized this a long time ago which is exactly why she was able to recognize the look in Bronx's eyes when he began talking about her championship belt. It was almost like she had been looking in the mirror of her own past. If she wanted to, she could feel herself crawling right into the mind of Bronx Valescence, and perhaps she would be able to find out what makes him tick even more than he has realized at this point. It was all too familiar in her mind. It was the path which she had traveled for such a long time and if she so felt the desire she would be able to give Bronx a guided tour so that he could see just where the path leads.
However she felt no pressing urge to do such a thing.
Instead she found it would be in her best interest to let him continue on his own and stumble all over his on two feet.
Was that cruel?
Perhaps.
It was also the most strategic move which she could make as she prepared herself to walk into Retribution. Having recognized that gleam in his eye, she knew what that could make him capable of, and if she wanted to keep her hands on her beloved championship belt it would be in her best interest to serve as the roadblock on his path to pushing himself up higher upon the mountain. The journey was nothing if there was no struggle and a struggle is exactly what Bronx Valescence needed in order to keep both of his feet planted firmly on the ground. For too long now he had allowed for his own misguided ego to trick him into believing that there was something more to him than what all of the people could see on the surface.
That's often the problem when one decides the path to take is to be the court jester in life. Sooner or later they always realize that the audience is simply laughing at them rather than with them as they were hoping. One can't help but wonder when exactly Bronx came to such a realization and if that sobering thought is what made him take a good long hard look in the mirror.
However it also appears like it is quite difficult to let go of the past completely. Why else would Bronx Valescence go through such complicated measures to mask himself as the injured party before such an important match? Granted there was no championship belt on the line, but this was his one chance to prove himself, his one chance to perhaps claim the golden ticket he had been lusting for since signing his name on the dotted line bringing him all the way to Japan. The championship belts that he's won before in the past mean nothing. In this present time, he has none to his name, and that is the fixation which has made him come to the foolish decision of stepping foot in the ring when so many things appear to be questionable.
Are the injuries for real?
Is that all part of some elaborate scheme?
Is the greatest joke of them all about to be played?
Or has Bronx bitten off more than he can chew now?
He expressed hope that Tara Davidson was going to be an opponent which would take him seriously inside of the ring. However the bigger question here would be whether or not Bronx Valescence is going to take Tara Davidson has a serious threat in the ring. His focus is upon the championship belt she holds when the focus should be upon the one holding the championship belt itself. Perhaps if he looked deeper into the woman who's to be his opponent at Retribution he would have realized that they walk upon a similar path. Despite the many differences in their approach towards the same goal. At the end of the day, each of them has hoped for the same thing, and each of them will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
That is unless a giant obstacle stands in their path.
Tara Davidson is going to be such an obstacle.
Perhaps she does take Bronx Valescence serious enough to not even bother to bite down upon the bait which he has been dangling around since he first announced his "retirement" all over his Twitter. It was almost like there was something within herself which knew this was not going to be the end of the story. A little something which happened to become a reality when Bronx himself came hobbling out during the press conference on his crutches. If she was expected to feel pity for him, no such thing happened, and instead a goal of her own began to form itself in the back of Tara Davidson's mind.
More than anything she wants to make Bronx Valescence regret his decision to go forward with this match.
Apres moi, le deluge
After me comes the flood
