-Up on the ceiling of the Kurt Newman wrestling school in Chicago, Illinois hang two wrestling ring canvases. Both are dirty as hell with sweat stains and blood splats covering the entirety of the canvas. Kurt keeps them hung up on the ceiling to tell his students what it means to be a professional wrestler. That a good match can be told with how that wrestling canvas looks like after a match. When looking at these two canvasses, can you tell a story just by looking at them? Can you tell what happened in that ring? Can you tell that both men gave it their all? If you can, then you belong in the wrestling business because you've been through a battle like this before. If you don't see a story.....then you haven't been through a battle like this before and you never will because you don't have the heart to take it to that limit.
-Looking up at the two canvasses, I've been mentally getting myself ready for the Global Championship tournament at Global Takeover. Each day now for the past two weeks I've stepped into this room, looked up to those two bloody canvasses, hoping to get inspiration. With less than a week left till the tournament begins.....I grow more and more anxious for the fights to come my way.
-Winning it all means the world to me. The honor of winning it for Kurt Newman, a father figure of mine since my old man passed away years ago, would mean everything for me and show that all the work the two of us went through wasn't for nothing. To win it would be inspirational for the NJFC Dojo and the dedication and money they spent on me to become a future of the wrestling industry.
-But if I can't win it........just means that it's not my time yet, and that I still have more to learn with my 21 year old self. But I don't need to be thinking of defeat. Not now. I don't need those excuses in my mind.
-Sitting in a steel chair in the center of the room, I look up at the two canvasses above me and begin to speak so that I can get this promo out of the way.
JT: "March 26th, 2016. NJFC presented Retribution. Main Event match of this card was Kurt Newman facing off against Johnny Bonecrusher for the NJFC Global Title. Two warriors stepped into that ring and gave it their all as they beat the living shit out of one another. Blood was shed, words were exchanged, and body parts were broken. A battle that should of been in the history books, where songs should had been sung about it for their efforts and determination to win. But because of a ref draw, the match was tarnished and forgotten in the history books of wrestling.
It wasn't till the 25th of June of 2016 that Kurt and Johnny would face each other again for the Global Title....this time in a KO In A Cage match. It was another wrestling classic as these two warriors beat the ever living shit out of one another once again. This time around though.....there wasn't a draw. There wasn't a ref decision. This time around Kurt took Johnny to the point where Johnny couldn't get up. Johnny laid on the ground.....broken and unconscious......to the point where Johnny hasn't been heard from since.
Both matches I was there on the side line watching. I had a first hand experience with what it takes to fight for that Global Title. With my own eyes I saw the pain and the look in their eyes as I saw the fire that they had burning in their souls. I heard the pain in their voices and the sound of bones breaking. I was there when Kurt raised that Global Title up.....his face bloody and all cut up. I was there when Johnny Bonecrusher was left on the ground a bloody and defeated man. I saw how to win....and how to lose."
-Looking back up at the two canvasses, I study every inch again.....making sure I didn't miss a single drop of blood on the mat. Kurt always called these two canvasses art work. Instead of brush strokes, it was head strokes with his and Johnny's skull. I wonder how many guys in his tournament even know the history of the Global Title?
JK: "This tournament is filled with individuals who don't care about NJFC or what the Global Championship means or stands for because to them, it's just another belt. Nothing but invaders, looking to rape and plunder NJFC of all that it's worth. They're only here because a title is on the line and they get to fulfill their fantasy of wrestling in Japan. They're heart and souls.....they won't be fully involved in this tournament because they have better things to worry about back home. More than half of the competitors in this tournament will wrestle their match, get paid, and then leave....never to return because they just don't have what it takes to wrestle in front of a Japanese crowd and a Japanese type of match that's stiffer and more technical than what they're use to back in America.
Confucius once said, study the past if you were to define the future.
I know the past of NJFC because I've been here since the very beginning. I was part of the companies first show. I was with the companies first Dojo. I was one of the first young boys to graduate from the Dojo. I was in NJFCs first match when it came back from the grave. I know NJFC. I am NJFC. I am the future of NJFC and with my victory of the Global Title.....the future of NJFC will be in my hands.
May God Have Mercy On Your Souls.......because I will give you none."
