It had been a while, more than a while but he was finally back, back where he belonged and there was no other way he'd have it. To say he was nervous was an understatement but he always managed to hide those nervous beneath his cool, calm, collective aura, that would be evident among piers and friends.
Vinnie Lloyd Anderson: This, this is what I'm made to do, programmed to be the greatest.
He spoke gently, his voice emulating maturity and wisdom.
But that was exactly what he had, both traits. He'd been in this dance long enough to garner them. Within the comfort of his the Dojo of Dragons, Vinnie sat cross legged with his eyes fixated on the camera, sweat beaming down his forehead and his hands clasped together. And you could tell, that he had been hard at work training, enhancing his game, something he'd have to do in order to keep up with the new kids on the block, more specifically, Richard Drake.
Vinnie Lloyd Anderson: That's what I was made to be, Richard. Ever since I started, I was programmed to be the greatest, trained by the greatest professionals in the world right here in the Dojo of Dragons, one of the most illustrious wrestling training camps in the world. This place right here, this is where my story started.
Reminiscing on his past, he paused, and thought of how far he'd come since his humble beginnings, allowing a smile to sneak onto his face, looking around at his surroundings and realizing the change that has come to this particular room, but he was OK with it. Change, that was inevitable. But what didn't change, was the fact that this was his home.
Vinnie Lloyd Anderson: And my story continues and it starts with you, Richard. A young man with tons of potential, an abundance of talent, a newcomer to the game who has quickly managed to adapt and pick up a thing or two. You're someone I'm impressed with but on paper, we both know that this match isn't in your favor. If you wanna talk about technicality, realism and everything as a whole, you honestly don't stand a chance.
But I know that this business we're in, it's full of surprises, twists and turns - and hell, if luck is on your side, you may find yourself on the winning end of our encounter. But the likelihood of that? Very bleak, but I'm only talking statistically, I'm only talking on a technical level here. What I know, is that you're prepared to go to whatever lengths to secure that victory, to make sure that your start here in Japan is an honorable one. I can only imagine that's what you dream of, what you hope for. But dreams and hopes, they're all pseudo and I learned that very early on in my career.
What you have to count on, what you have to depend on, is two things - talent, and luck. You have talent. I know that and so do you. Though being a relative unknown within the Japanese scene, their crowd are going to know that after our encounter too, or even during. Luck? That's something you have to create for yourself. Anything can happen in our world Richard, but if you're going to beat me, you're going to have to put me down.
There was a seriousness within his tone, an element of arrogance too, something not synonymous with Anderson.
Vinnie Lloyd Anderson: I'm not joking. This isn't a game to me, so you shouldn't think I am. I want you to know, that I'm a very dangerous man, someone who's been doing this for two decades, conquering all over the world. I know what is expected, I know what the highest caliber is, I've competed on it - and my age doesn't divert me away from that. If anything, I've gotten better, smarter, and more accurate with age, something you need to be very aware of.
But I'm sure you know.
I'm sure you're aware of the strengths I possess. I'm sure you've watched the countless of tapes and interviews in order to gain a greater understanding, but none of that matters. As a whole, this old dog has evolved. He's better now, and I'm wondering whether you're prepared for that. I'm the biggest challenge you've had in your young career and this is an opportunity for yourself to raise your level, become known, build fame and fortune, by defeating a legend. You've got it all to play for. I wonder what that feels like on your young shoulders, having all of that pressure. Can you handle it? Either way, expect me to push you to a match you'll never forget, a show stealer in the making between you and I, Drake. You can count on that.
And with that said, the scene faded to black.
