Chandler Scott: This time last week, I was going one on one with arguably the best wrestler on the planet. Last Saturday, I was wrestling in one of the most highly-anticipated matches in wrestling. I had the honor of going one on one with none other than Felicity Banks. In the buildup to that contest, words were said, feelings were caught and tension was at an all-time high. Even though her and I are about to become extended family in less than a month, what would happen in that match would be nothing personal. Strictly business. We tried to get into each others' head. We tried to one up the other. We even hit each other with the others' signature move. It was a match that tore the house down. It was match that didn't just live up to the hype, it exceeded it. And it was a match that reminded every fan inside of Staples Center, as well as every fan watching at home on Pay Per View, exactly why they're fans of the greatest sport in the world. No short cuts were taken. No illegal weapons came into play. No one ran interference for either of us. It was just two wrestlers, at the top of their game, battling it out just to see who the better wrestler was.
On that night, we found out that it was yours truly that reigned supreme over The Supremaaaah.
It was a match that left mouths agape. It was a match that led to tears of joy rolling down the faces of fans. It was a match that resulted in a standing ovation from everyone in attendance. Even the famed Dave Scriven of the Pro Wrestling Observer gave it the full Five Stars. So how do you follow up a Five Star Classic against one of the best wrestlers this sport has seen over the past five years?
By turning your attention back to the Pride of Puroresu Crown!
Don't get it confused. The adulation... the accolades... the kind words that came pouring in? All of that was well and good, and I'm 100 percent thankful and appreciative of it all. But yours truly has never lost sight of the goal. Yours truly never lost sight of the plan. And that it is make it to the very end of this tournament, win the Pride of Puroresu Crown and become your new GPC World Heavyweight Champion. And that plan will continue over the next two weeks when I take in Yuji Misawa, Owen Gonsalves, Mark Storm and Asuka Yoshiro.
On June 1st, each of us started a journey. Whether it was diving head-first into unfamiliar territory, wanting to make a name for yourself in your home country or living out a long held dream, each of us came to New Japan Fighting Championship to take part in the Pride of Puroresu Crown. Multiple times a week, we battered our bodies against top flight competition over the course of the last month. With only 14 days remaining in the Group Stage, we are winding down to the final days in Block A. All of our bodies are hurting. All of us are aching in places that we didn't even know we could be sore in. But that's what happens when you group 24 of the finest athletes together in a mad dash to the finish line.
Misawa and Yoshiro? To my knowledge, this is the only company that they work for. Myself? This is the only other place that I compete in. Gonsalves and Storm? They're jetsetters. Especially Storm. You'd be hard pressed to name a company that the man doesn't work for. The question now is, who has enough left in the tank? I know that all of us want to make to to the end of Block A in that top spot. I know that all of us have every intention of making it to that finish line, even if it means we have to drag ourselves across it on hands & knees. The mind may be willing. But is the body able? That is the question that remains, ladies and gentlemen. Who has the endurance? Who has enough stamina left? Not just to finish this tournament. But to finish this tournament strong. To finish this block with wins under our belt. I know that this isn't the tournament that Misawa and Yoshiro had envisioned. At this point, they might be mathematically eliminated from winning Block A. But do you think that's going to stop them? Do you think that's going to deter them from playing spoiler and stopping a guy like me from securing the top spot in Block A? I know if the shoe was on the other foot, I'd be doing everything in my power to make sure that I defeated the guy that's in pole position. So you can bet that I am expecting the very best out of those two. Mark Storm? You have I have done battle a few times in the past. Both times, I've come out on top. And I know the competitor that you are, Storm. I know the fighting spirit that burns deep inside of you. You want to prove that you're the better wrestler, just like you wanted to prove that you were a better wrestler than James Edwards. You did just that, both here and ultimately over in FGA. This is your chance, Storm, to finally get big win that you've been waiting nearly a year for. Unfortunately for you, I have to do everything in my power to keep you waiting. Gonsalves? There arguably isn't a more technically sound wrestler on the planet. I've seen you contort many opponents. I've seen you break limbs if need me. But believe me when I tell you, you won't break my spirit. You won't stop my drive. Because at the end of the Group Stage, every head will bow and every tongue will confess that Chandler Reigns Supreme
