Tokyo, Japan
The towering temple, known to the people of Japan as the Senso-ji Temple is the location of this shoot. The camera pan goes over all the stalls and street shops leading up to the most respected temple in Japan. It doesn't take long to find the man of the moment, "Indestructible" Owen Gonsalves. He sits amongst nature in the Japanese style garden within the walls of the temple.
There's a peaceful silence that he's amongst, sitting on a moss rock by the lake. He's donning his "Made in Australia, Made For Japan" shirt with a light bomber jacket over it. Over his shoulder is his pride and joy, his IYH Champion that he seemingly continues to carry everywhere with him.
OWEN GONSALVES: "Three wins, one loss and one draw. That's the record so far in the New Japan Fighting Championship's Pride of Puroresu Crown 2017. It certainly isn't a perfect run, you'd only have to ask Mitsuo Shimada and Chandler Scott about what that looks like...but with huge wins over Tommy Knox, Yuji Misawa and 'Iceman' Konrad Raab, it certainly is threatening, isn't it?"
Gonsalves readjusts the championship on his shoulder as he continues to speak, the calming nature that surrounds him creating for a rather mellow tone as opposed to his usualy impassioned promo.
OWEN GONSALVES: "I'd like to think so, but it would all be null and void if my next few matches end with me on my back looking up at the lights. I've got matches coming up with bonafide Japanese superstars who are desperate, desperate to regain control of their promotion. Let's be real, as much as I love some of these guys, since the main event of A New Hope In Tokyo...NJFC has been all gaijin, we've come over here and forced the Japanese talent to start stepping the fuck up again and with all due respect, they've flopped."
The Submission Alchemist lightly shrugs his shoulders as he continues to soak up the view and the beauty of the land he finds himself in.
OWEN GONSALVES: "It's a bit hypocritical coming from someone who lost to Hiroyoshi Suzuki in the first round of the Global Takeover Tournament but it's merely an observation worth making, the POP crown has proven that the only real Japanese threats are Shimada or Yuji Misawa. But with that being said, I'd be an idiot to take Ken Hideyoshi lightly or Akio Tanaka lightly, especially when he calls himself a God right?"
The Australian scoffs at the arrogance of Tanaka, shaking his head slightly before continuing on.
OWEN GONSALVES: "You two men are great wrestlers, fantastic work inside the ring but it just hasn't transitioned well enough for either of you. But I came here to fight the best Japan has to offer and if the NJFC committee think that you're the best homegrown talent this country has, then I'll just have to put you both down. I suppose that brings me to a match I've been waiting all of this year for..."
Owen moves the championship belt off of his shoulder and places it on his lap for a moment as he smirks at the thought of the man he faces on the 2nd of July
OWEN GONSALVES: "July 2nd, I finally step into the ring with Your Hero and Mine. The definition of what a travelling wrestler should be, in my personal opinion, is what Mark Storm is, and that's the honest truth. There is no other wrestler on this planet that travels promotion to promotion, city to city, country to country the way Mark does."
The smirk remains as Gonsalves scratches his chin for a moment, pausing and pondering on the dream match.
OWEN GONSALVES: "I'd be a liar if I didn't say I look up to Storm in that respect. I mean I want to do what he's doing, I want to be all over the fucking place, conquering every promotion I'm at and having quality matches every night, and I'd like to think I'm well on my way to doing that but Mark...I can't help but wonder if there maybe comes a time where that all catches up to you?"
There is genuine curiosity in the eyes of the IYH Champion.
OWEN GONSALVES: "Mark, what happens if we're wrestling and suddenly the fatigue catches up? You know very well that when you step in the ring with Owen Gonsalves, you need to be at your very best, you need to be in top physical condition and as much as I love you and your work, I just don't believe that you're going to be at your absolute best, I want you to, I really do...but the truth of it all, Mark, is that you need to be at your best against me and if you aren't then you'll fall, just like Tanaka and Hideyoshi will as well..."
Owen pulls his championship back onto his shoulder and the smirk slowly reappears once more as the scene fades out.
