"It's easy to loook at this main event, stare at the names on the marquee, and become entranced by the atmosphere. But this about more than the blockbuster names that have survived the grueling Pride of Puroresu Crown Tournament. This is bigger than Chris Madison versus Chandler Scott for the first time ever", Chris said as he glared into the camera. "This is about the GPC World Heavyweight Championship!"
With the Sumida River behind him, Chris Madison stood in front of the iconic Ryōgoku Kokugikan amongst the busy midday foot traffic. Easily recognizable by any Japanese wrestling fan, people began to huddle around while whispering to one another as Chris kept himself locked onto the camera crew that was filming him.
"I know this isn't the most desirable finale in the eyes of the Global Puroresu Committee, but the shortcomings of the champions in the past isn't a reflection of what Chandler or I can do with the crown. I'm not trying to knock JPD or Jon Kellar, but their reigns, if you want to even call them title reigns, left a lot to be desired. Whether they're willing to publicly admit it or not, the GPC has a ton of resentment towards gaijins because of it."
"To be honest, I can see where they're coming from."
"The GPC World Heavyweight Championship is supposed to signify the very best of Japanese professional wrestling. It's a championship that should be held with pride and honor. Unfortunately neither of the two champions in its short history were proud to hold the title. They didn't go on to defend its honor. All it became was another accomplishment to add to their storied careers. That changes at Pride of Puroresu! NJFC has treated me like gold ever since I first showed interest in competing here. They have lined up challenges for me that I may not have otherwise been afforded. I owe it to NJFC to finish what I started, reach the top of the mountain, and finally give the GPC World Heavyweight Championship the kind of fighting champion that it deserves!"
"It doesn't need to be the popular ending."
"Personally, I can take the heat from the committee and fight my way to changing their minds..."
"But first, I have to find a way to beat one of the very best in the industry!"
Chris's eyes dance off to the side and he grins at the mere mention of his upcoming opponent. He reaches up and begins to scratch at his scruffy beard while the crowd surrounding him continue to grow in numbers.
"Chandler Scott isn't the kind of talent that comes around too often. Once this Pride of Puroresu Crown Tournament was announced, and I saw that we had been put in separate blocks, I knew he'd be there waiting for me in the finale. There's no denying the caliber of wrestler that he is; the man's résumé says it all. Perhaps the most decorated wrestler in FGA history, he's the kind of guy that your best just might not be good enough! He's the kind of guy that drew me back to FGA when my 4CW contract had expired. At the time, I felt FGA provided me with the most competition. Little did I know that it was going to take a revamped NJFC to finally get this match together!"
"That's the beauty of the Pride of Puroresu Crown..."
"NJFC gave the wrestling world a platform to showcase some of the best talents in the business and pit them against one another. Guys who would have possibly never crossed paths got to mix it up in front of some of the most passionate fans out there. Fresh faces, local heroes, indy darlings, legends of the sport, all fought tooth and nail to stand in the exact position that I'm standing in today."
"As much as I respect Chandler and everything he's accomplished, I can't wait to knock that chip off of his shoulder! Despite what he says, he's looking at me and thinking that the GPC World Heavyweight Championship is as good as his. To him, I'm a class below him; we all are! In Chandler's world, we all pale in comparison to him. He needs to come to the realization that he's stepping onto my turf! Japan has always been my home away from home. I spent six straight years of my career working the circuit out here before returning to the states. Since then, I've yet to lose a match in Japan. It didn't matter the promotion I worked for, traveling back here, fighting for these people, it kicks me into a different gear. I know I can be THE GUY to propel NJFC, mainly because I hold this company near and dear to my heart."
"He's Mr. FGA..."
"Time to be formally introduced to Mr. NJFC!"
"There will be plenty of moments in this match where Chandler will have the upper hand. Hell, I may even look like I'm down and out. But that's the when I excel. You can hit me as hard as you possibly can. You can slam me down onto that canvas over and over again. You can twist my limbs until they break off. The problem that he has to overcome? I DON'T STOP PUSHING FORWARD! I know Chandler has faced the best out there; but I can guarantee that's never faced someone that gets better with every passing second, like I do. The longer this match goes, the more he beats me down, the better I get."
"Before we step into the ring in two days, you may want to check yourself. Just because I respect what you've been able to do throughout your career doesn't mean I will hesitate to leave you a bloody heap in the center of that ring. From day one with NJFC, for me, the goal was the GPC World Heavyweight Championship. Now that I'm this close, I'll be damned if anyone is going to keep me from giving the NJFC fans the champion that they deserve!"
"This match has the potential of being the war of all wars. What you need to do is look deep down and ask yourself if you're ready to leave your career out there in front of a jam packed arena! Because if there's even the slightest doubt, I will break you and send you packing back to FGA where they cherish the ground that you stand on!"
Chris lets out a deep sigh and takes a step forward, staring at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan as the feed cuts out.
