The sound of rolling luggage had become something of commonplace for Cosmo Cooper in the last few months. That’s where we find him now as he spots the camera at a low angle. The red bubble case he brought for a suitcase was rolled alongside of him as a pair of large headphones rested around his neck. Even though he looked tired, Cosmo still gave a wave and a smile to the camera as it followed him through the Japanese airport.
“It’s crazy, you know? Every time you guys follow me around for something, I get something else going on. Now I’m in Japan?” Cosmo chuckled as he glanced down at his phone. Despite the time difference, he always made time to let Leela Watts know he made it. “I know I always say this but I literally though I’d never be here, in Japan. Wild, dude.”
A soft piano played in the background as the image of Cosmo Cooper walking through the airport slowly faded into Cosmo Cooper at the top of a ramp with a title over his shoulder, his hands was brought to his lips as he kissed it and brought it slowly out to them as he looked down at the belt.
“I’ve just wanted to prove I belong in this game, everywhere I go,” another video crossed over that one. This time Cosmo threw a slow-motion heel kick towards his opponent and the unnamed soul was staggered back into the turnbuckle. “Japan is no different, NJFC is no different. I’m aware of all the names that has come through here. Let’s face it, you’re not anyone if you don’t come through here at least once. I’ve even got a win here.”
More footage played, this time with his match against Ricky. Most of the match, despite the pain and the fatigue, Cosmo had a giant grin on his face. Even more so as he had his hand raised at the end of the night. Cosmo knew from that moment that he would be back.
“Beating Ricky I felt like proved to everyone that I belonged here, you know?” Cosmo was now sitting outside with his round sunglasses on, waiting for his ride. He watched people pass through the lenses. The camera focused in from just beside him. “Let’s be honest. I talk mad trash as soon as I walk through the door. The difference is I’ve always been able to back it up. I’ve realized that maybe bashing the heads in of people isn’t the best way to go to get a kind reputation.”
Another montage played. This time it was of Cosmo Cooper in places such as XHW, where his mouth didn’t stop moving the entire time he was wresting. A few tweets popped up as well. As we fade back, Cosmo has a smirk on his face.
“I think people are realizing now, I’m that guy I talked about then. But when I go against a guy like Craig Anderson, what am I supposed to say?” Cosmo leaned back on the bench he sat on. “Here’s a guy who has been as kind to me as anyone. Here’s a company that has been very easy to work with based on my schedule. Who am I to come in and trash it and everyone else?”
Popping his fingers, the small car finally arrived and a small Japanese man got out and opened the door for Cosmo and he got in, they sped off into traffic.
“Craig said something in his press conference that was interesting to me,” Cosmo spoke a little more softly now as his head was leaned up against the window as he spoke to the camera. “Sure, everyone knows how good of a rookie year I am having, but what comes after that? What comes after when the honeymoon phase wears off and I’m tired of flying to Japan to Alaska to California to wrestle in a span of 48 hours?”
Adjusting the flat bill on his head, Cosmo’s eyes darted and followed all of the traffic that flowed around him.
“I’m a firm believer in things happening for a reason. I think Craig being my opponent was for a reason this week,” Cosmo pointed to his ear, “I’m always listening, man. I’m always trying to learn from those who have been doing this. I have my shit figured out in the ring, but there’s other things that go into it. I’m trying to balance real life shit too. I’m trying to balance being a good boyfriend to Leela, trying to balance taking care of my family back home.”
After that, Cosmo stayed quiet for a long time as his car drove through traffic, it’s destination unknown for the time being. Previous footage of Cosmo leaning down to kiss his frail grandmother on the forehead played as he smiled towards the camera. Now we were back in the car.
“I don’t want to be a one-year-wonder. I want to be here for the long haul. Championships are nice but,” Cosmo lifted his shoulders in a shrug. “Nobody cares about those but yourself. You’ve got to continue to keep winning. Next year, nobody will give a damn about a 23-4 start or whatever it is I’ve had this year. I’ll just keep putting the next thing in front of me, and let everything fall into place. That next thing? It just so happens to be Craig Anderson.”
The car finally came to a stop and Cosmo found himself outside of the car as the camera crew rolled out with him. Cosmo grabbed his bag and the footage zoomed in from his feet and then zoomed out with Cosmo Cooper standing in front of the famous Ryōgoku Kokugikan. Nodding a few times, that familiar smug smile creepy back onto his lips as Cosmo flipped his hat around and turned his head from side to side.
“NJFC… Daddy’s home.”
Cosmo rolled his luggage towards the building as the scene faded.
