10 QUESTIONS WITH...
ANASTASIA HAYDEN
1. How are you finding wrestling in Japan?
"It's been a welcomed challenge. I've had some hard fought battles and some I breezed through. But as long as there's someone on top for me to knock out in Japan, I love it."
2. What persuaded you to make more appearance for New Japan?
"I hate the idea wrestlers get of locking themselves into being exclusive. It's all about facing the best and getting better every day. So why stunt your growth as a wrestler? Doesn't make sense to me. That's why I'm here, to keep improving."
3. What's the difference between Four Corners Wrestling and New Japan Fighting Championship?
"A different culture I suppose. In 4CW, it's a lot more cut throat and people will do anything and everything to get themselves ahead. In New Japan, it's systematic almost. You fight, you win, you climb the ranks. Not too much reliance on underhanded tactics. Not that I'm against that though."
4. Is there anything or anyone that has captured your attention since joining?
"Four names come to mind. Cosmo Cooper, Craig Anderson, Tokyo Zombie, and Zack Fantana. Four wrestlers I'd really like to beat and embarrass."
5. Do you have any short term or long term goals?
"Short term? No. Long term? I guess staying the hardest working wrestler alive. Being on top everywhere I go. I want that feeling when someone sees my name, they instantly know what they're in for."
6. What's your view on the committee not wanting anymore gaijin wrestlers to join?
"It makes sense. Keep it pure. Sucks knowing that some of the best talent gets barred, but being able to beat the best native talent makes up for it. Though, I think New Japan could do with cutting the weaker gaijin talent."
7. Would you say Anastasia Hayden is here for the long run?
"Impossible to say, isn't it? But as long as there's someone to beat, someone claiming to be the best or going after a championship...I'll be there to crush their dreams. So leaving New Japan isn't in my mind at the moment."
8. Is the global championship belt still a priority, or are you more focused on the junior heavyweight division?
"Either or, really. Again, I don't like the idea of limiting myself to something. The belts don't interest me, but wherever the best talent is? That's where I want to be. If that means having to win the Global Championship belt, then so be. If it means staying in the junior heavyweight division, I'm all for it."
9. What are your views on the current state of New Japan?
"It's solid here in New Japan. If I'm sticking around somewhere, that's all that needs to be said. I'm not interested in playing backstage politics or working with shady promoters. New Japan hasn't screwed me yet...so I can't complain."
10. How can it get better?
"More tours, less tournaments. To see outsiders just come in for a chance at a belt, lose, and leave is disrespectful. If they stay? Great. If not? They're cowards. Simple as that. We don't need any more glory hounds in wrestling. We need wrestlers."
