10 QUESTIONS WITH...
OWEN GONSALVES
1. How is Owen Gonsalves?
Owen Gonsalves is doing great. He's on top of the wrestling world, he's got a beautiful family with a baby on the way. Things could always be better but right now man they could be way worse and I'm blessed to say that that isn't the case. I've been wanting to do one of these for a while, glad we finally got to doing one of these in the end.
2. What was 2017 like for you?
2017 was probably the most successful year of my nine year career to be honest. I won two championships in a year and that's something I haven't done in a while, I had a lot of huge dream matches and some huge grudge matches. I had been working for 2 or 3 years to ply my craft and find my place and my niche within the industry and I think that all came together in 2017. I wrestled in like 9 countries and over 10 promotions which is incredible. I got to finally make my return to Japan and right some wrongs, and I capped the year off winning a huge tournament here in Japan.
3. What do you hope to accomplish in 2018?
It has to be bigger and better. I want to hold more championships, I want to have bigger matches in bigger venues, I want to he recognized as the best professional wrestler today and that means taking the necessary steps towards that in 2018.
4. Is there anyone in particular you'd like to face?
This year? I've got a whole list of people but that's for myself. The list is pretty private but theres names on there like Cosmo Cooper, Bryan Williams, Dom Harter, Molly Reid and Josh Kennedy. There's a lot of names on the list but I welcome any and all opponents. This year is the year for making every single match I'm in important and must-see.
5. How did you feel when you won the Tag Team League with Kamikaze?
Winning the Tag Team League in Kamikaze Pro was something we needed to do. We had talked game and fell short before so we needed to put ourselves back on that pedestal so the Tag League was the opportunity to do that. We were overjoyed because Japan didnt really have a tag team to look forward to here so we made it a mission to become the tag team that can represent this beautiful country and the fans that support puroresu here. Physically though, my body was in agony after that tournament, it was as physically exhausting as the Pride of Puroresu Crown.
6. What do you think about your opponents, Cashe and Knox?
Cashe and Knox are both talented in their own right. They talk some shit but who doesn't in this day and age? There isn't any personal beef between the two teams, just a case of differing opinions on the GPC Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. Like we've agreed upon, when the match is said and done the losers will buy the winners drinks and we'll get on fine.
7. How did you and Ace meet?
Ace and I first met when we both entered the developmental system for the Shootclub Wrestling Alliance. The developmental system was called Shootcamp and thats where I learned how to wrestle to cameras and to American audiences for the first time. Ace had come to Shootcamp all the way from England so we were both foreigners, I was getting used to America again and he was adjusting for the first time. Tyler Storm was there and that made the three of us. Thats why we call ourselves Shootcamp. That place united us and taught us values that nobody else couldve and we've all lived by them since, and now we make it a part of our lifestyles and wave the banner of our first home with pride.
8. What makes the two of you different to any other team?
What makes us different? 8 years of chemistry, a brotherhood that would rival blood brothers. Heart doesn't set us apart from other tag teams but we've got that in spades, but Ace, Ty and myself are all stubborn, there is no dying, there is no staying down with Shootcamp.
9. Whatever the outcome, can we expect to see more of Shootcamp?
That's yet to be seen, I can't speak for Ace but I do know he loves Japan. If these championships are ours then obviously we plan on being back...if not then maybe we'll have to hang around until we do get those GPC Tag Team Championships.
10. Whatever the outcome, can we expect to see more of Owen Gonsalves?
I'd like to come back whenever I can obviously, maybe not as often as I used to but this place was very welcoming and I had a lot of my favourite matches here so yeah, you'll see me again for sure.
