It’s not like Kendrick is new, but look at the competition. Some of the top competitors in this tournament are known though, so Kendrick is viewed as an underdog. Kendrick strives for that though. The underdog role has been what has helped him win eight of his first ten matches. An eighty percent winning percentage to start? He didn’t see that as bad, especially when his losses came to solid competitors. He made sure he put up a hell of a fight against both as well.
Perched upon a the ledge of a four story building in New York City. He’s looking down onto the roads and listening to the sounds of the city. Kendrick closes his eyes, taking it all in and lets a slow breath out before turning towards the camera.
“I don’t just want this tournament win, I need this tournament win. I need this to show everyone that just because I am new to this business does NOT mean I am just going to lay down and accept defeat. I don’t accept defeat. I never have and I sure as hell never will. If I were to accept defeat then I that’s the day I hang everything up and retire. Accepting defeat means you are only willing to be in this business, you aren’t willing to fight for success. In this tournament, you can’t do that.”
Kendrick yawns a bit then takes a deep breath after it, following by a slow exhale.
“This tournament is a collection of sixteen of the best Jr. Heavyweight competitors. NJFC scoured the globe and let only sixteen people in. Four rounds, which means you have to go through four competitors, it won’t be easy. Each person has a 6.25 percent chance of winning. Although they aren’t exactly the best odds, they are even odds. That’s the good thing.”
Kendrick adjusts his spot on the ledge, to where he is now sitting square on the ledge and looking into the camera. He lets a small smirk cross his face.
“This tournament is a test of the skill of each competitor in here. They will all be bringing their best. You have to. Fifteen other competitors? Sure, you aren’t facing all fifteen others, but you still are facing four tough people. You can’t pick and choose who you face either, you have to face who they give you. Which means you have to prepare for everyone and multiple styles. Research will be key in this tournament, you don’t research each and every opponent you’re already behind the 8 ball.”
Kendrick licks his lips quickly and lets gathers his thoughts.
“The winner of this tournament will propel their career. The winner of this tournament and getting the Jr. Heavyweight Title will show them that they are one of the best wrestlers at their weight class. That’s exactly what I plan to do. I need to show that even though I’ve been around the wrestling world for a month, I am one of the best around. Not just one of the best Jr. Heavyweights, but one of the best wrestlers regardless of weight class. That begins with Owens.”
Kendrick takes a deep breath and eyes the camera, his face turning to more of a serious look.
“I have more to lose in this match, yet also have more to gain. I lose, my career gets set back, I don’t get the boost that I so desire and deserve. Owens, you’ve been around. You’ve had success I haven’t. I haven’t been around or have had success in the wrestling business, that’s what I’m trying to do here. My career gets a very needed boost with the win of this tournament. Not just that but it could be my very first championship. I’ve been in a title match and came close, but fell short. I don’t plan on doing that this tournament. So Owens, you’re in my way.”
Kendrick keeps his serious look and keeps eyeing the camera but shakes his head a bit.
“I warn you Owens, don’t get in my way for long, it won’t be good for you. Not just you though Owens, this applies to everyone in this tournament. I don’t need anyone standing in my way. I’m not exactly the nicest person when someone tries to stop me. Especially when it comes to a tournament like this. I don’t care what it takes to get there, I need to be the champion. Not just to brag that I am a champion, but to prove that jumping to wrestling was worth it.”
Kendrick gets up from the ledge and motions to the camera to follow him as he walks towards the door.
“This tournament is a career changer for everyone in this tournament, if they tell you different they are lying out of their asses, you and they know it. This tournament lifts the person who wins it to the top of the food chain basically. That’s where I want to be, I want to be the measuring stick. That’s one thing I know I can be, a measuring stick for everyone else out there.”
Kendrick reaches the door and swings it open, looking dead into the camera with a smirk on his face as he lets a small chuckle out.
“It’s time for every other competitor to exit stage left. Leave the star of this competition standing, it’s what is going to happen in the end anyways. The main character, the ultimate star in this competition at the very end will be myself, Kendrick Kross, and that belt will be my Oscar for best male actor, or should I say. Best male wrestler.”
Kendrick lets out a chuckle and walks through the door, slamming it behind him as the camera fades out.
