DA #TROLL GUY Mariano Fernandez and Sammy 3.0 walk into the conference room together. Sammy is sporting a long blue gown, while Manny is dressed in a grey suit. The cameras start flashing as the different journalists from around the world begin taking pictures. Mariano waits for his motorized partner to sit down, then he follows suit as the press correspondents do the same after them.
Mariano: “Hey yo. Thank y’all for coming, mang. It’s a great honor to have been invited into the TagTeamTropolis tournament here in NJFC. This company that has been known throughout the wrestling world far and wide, and the fact that they’ve taken an interest in us is more than I have ever imagined.”
In traditional Japanese fashion, Mariano takes a deep bow.
Sammy: “Hello. I am Sammy 3.0. I am a product of testing done by T.H.I.C.C. laboratories. Last month I became a wrestler and the whole of Japan welcomed me. For this I am as grateful as an android can be. ERROR#404 has arrived in NJFC, the most historic wrestling organization in Japan."
Sammy mirrors Manny.
Q: “You two make a very strange pairing. What led you to sign up to this tournament?”
Mariano: “It’s worth mentioning we’re here for two main reasons. The first thing we’re doing is responding a challenge from DPG. Jason Cashe is my friend and we’ve faced more than once before. In singles matches, we’re now evened - but still a tag team match remains where he has a win over me.”
He takes a drink of the bottle of water prepared for him in the table.
Mariano: “The name of “Outlaw” Tommy Knox, likewise, isn’t strange to my ears even though we have never yet been in the same place at the same time. I thought I’d have the opportunity to face him in the CWC, but since he lasted there less than one of Cashe’s farts, that wasn’t meant to be.”
Q: “You must be aware then that DPG have been Tag Team Champions since 2016, which means no one has been able to defeat them since then.”
Manny takes a moment to compose his thoughts and a smile creeps its way into view.
Mariano: “Cashe dared us to try, mang. Knox in particular I know ain’t fond of my partner, but that’s of no consequence to me - I’m answering THEIR summons, and there’s no one and nothing weighing us down.”
The camera pans to the side where Sammy is tapping away at her microphone.
Sammy: “Zoom in.”
The camera does just that.
Sammy: “Knox reminds me of the stories I have read about human hate. You are hateful and full of spite. In addition you have preconceived ideas of what wrestling should be. I come before this mass of fans and members of the press, unashamed of what I am.”
The LED lights upon Sammy’s head would flicker for a moment.
Sammy: “Throw away your ideals, ideas, beliefs, and even your traditions. While I respect those that came before me, I'm not them. My partner is not the past. Your beliefs ring false because we are the future, while the names of the past rot away. The past and the old ways are done. Accept that the new wave is here, ready to wash DPG and any other team in this tournament out to sea.”
Sammy would mimic human laughter through her speakers.
Sammy: “Hate me if you so desire. You will embrace the future ERROR#404 is building when you and your title reign are both part of its foundation. Buried at sea or overtaken by the future, it makes no difference what metaphors you use. The outcome will be the same.”
Q: “Mariano, you mentioned two reasons for being here, but you have only mentioned one. May I ask as for the other?”
He nods, amiably.
Mariano: “We must not forget, chicos, that facing - and beating - DPG is just the destination of a journey that starts on April 25th. Which brings us to the other goal.”
Another drink, his face still jovial, but his eyes now serious.
Mariano: “Because our first step in that journey is none other than SHOOTCAMP - and with them we have, if not particular challenges or bad blood, a certain history. See, back in Kamikaze Pro some months ago, we made our team debut against them as part of the Tag Team League Challenge. Hard fought as that was, we came out on the losing end as well. Thus we know what Ace Watson and Owen Gonsalves are capable of.”
Q: “SHOOTCAMP have been a very successful tag team for a very long time. Do you feel you are prepared to take them on this time?”
Mariano: “That makes, of course, for a logical explanation of why they came out the winner. But my partner and I, we’ve learned - we’ve matured, and we are aware of the circumstances that having such a tag team as opponents present us for a very first round.”
Q: “What are your overall impressions on the rest of the competitors on this tournament, and what do you make of your chances of winning?”
Mariano: ”We know we have the pleasure to be guests here upon a challenge by another team, in one of the greatest wrestling companies in the world, among names like the Dogs of War, Lisa Seldon, and Anna Matthews. We have the opportunity for a rematch since the time we’ve mentioned. And for what, mang? To get kicked out at the first round of this tournament? To have people say that we were the eternal underdogs again?”
He shakes his head, almost violently.
Mariano: “No no no! That shit just CANNOT be, and we WON’T let it be. Last year, in 4CW, I got approached by someone now not worth remembering, who wanted me to join their Bad Company tag team tournament. I figured I’d do a favor and said yes, and our first match was against a team with Cashe. And THERE it was our turn to get eliminated at the first round because he turned out to be dead weight.”
Q: “Speaking of that, it’s true that tournaments seem to be a bit of your comfort zone. Is that another reason that drives you on?”
Mariano: “I’ve known what getting stuck at the first round of a tournament is all too often, mang - and I’ve had enough of that shit. I know what it is to be part of a team that had a championship opportunity that ended up slipping away - and my partner knows it too. So no more, mang. No more slip-ups, no more missed chances, no more early send-aways. We know the road that lies before us, a challenge we must rise up to, and we’ve been given the opportunity RIGHT HERE at the very first round.”
He makes a final nod.
Mariano: “And SHOOTCAMP, mang, they’re going to feel that.”
Sammy makes a fist with her robotic hand and gives Manny a firm nod.
Sammy: “Since our loss to Shoot Camp we have faced horrible losses, but we’ve both experienced some of our most important personal and professional victories. A month can change people and I think in our case, it’s very true. Since meeting back up for this show we have done nothing but train, work on our cohesion, and our flexibility as a team. To say we’ve been anxious for a chance at redemption against one of the greatest tag teams of this generation… Is quite the understatement.”
Sammy slams that robotic fist angrily into the table. The table threatens to break. Of course, it’s a Japanese table so that doesn’t happen.
Sammy: “Shoot Camp, we have the UTMOST respect for what you have done as WRESTLERS. However, you fall under the same category as Cashe and Knox. You still hold firm on old ideals and beliefs. At least Knox and Cashe will approach us on social media and tell us what they think. We come into this match KNOWING what Knox and Cashe have in store for us. Shoot Camp won’t even give us that. Even Anna Mathews told me she was going to dump water on me during this tournament. Shoot Camp? Nothing. You walk into round one of the most important tag team tournament in recent NJFC history. Act like it!”
Mariano raises a hand interrupting his robotic partner.
Mariano: “Whowhowhoa, hold on, mang I-!”
Sammy: “Relax. I’m bringing light to their lack of focus compared to our extreme focus. Besides, our time is up.”
Manny, then, extends his fist to Sammy while looking directly at the journalists.
Mariano: “Then that’s a wrap, chicos. Just remember, I’m DA #TROLL GUY…”
Sammy: “... And I’m Sammy 3.0…”
Mariano: “And we’re ERROR#404, because a team like us…”
Here they both bump fists together.
Mariano/Sammy: “... HAS NOT! BEEN! FOUND!”
And with that they get up and walk away as the journalists start scribbling their final notes.
Mariano: “Hey yo. Thank y’all for coming, mang. It’s a great honor to have been invited into the TagTeamTropolis tournament here in NJFC.
