(With the podium temporarily vacant, Frankie Morrison steps out and greets James Peterson with a firm handshake. The two share a laugh before Morrison breaks away and steps up to the podium. He adjusts the microphone and places his hands on the sides, looking out at the crowded floor as photographers began snapping pictures.)
FRANKIE MORRISON: “Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Madison…”
(Morrison takes a step aside and begins clapping as Chris Madison steps into the room, beaten, battered, and bruised from his recent 4CW Championship match against Dakota Smith. Madison, dressed as casual as usual, limps up to the podium with the 4CW Championship draped over his shoulder. He shakes his managers hand and passes the 4CW Championship off before turning his attention to the reporters on the floor.)
CHRIS MADISON: “Thank you all for comin’ out tonight. For awhile there, it didn’t look like I was goin’ to be joinin’ you guys for Tag-Team-Tropolis. Losin’ to Chandler Scott with the NJFC World Heavyweight Championship up for grabs, wrestlin’ to a sixty minute draw in a rematch, and then losin’ to Cosmo Cooper - I couldn’t blame Mr. Peterson had he kept me off of the card. But the thing is, he knows that regardless of a tough few matches, I bleed NJFC. He went out and found me an opponent so that we could give the fans the caliber match that has become expected out of me - five star quality that’ll have every one of those fans standin’ on their feet!”
(Shelley Silver rises to her feet and shoots the first question Madison’s direction.)
SHELLEY SILVER: “You touched on your recent shortcomings in NJFC. Some would say that it’s only three matches and that you shouldn’t beat yourself up. Two losses and a draw against two of the best wrestlers in the world. How do you keep yourself from getting discouraged and where do you go from here?”
(Chris lets out a deep sigh, wincing as he adjusts and turns his body towards Shelley Silver.)
CHRIS MADISON: “I’ve already been discouraged... I have no shame in admittin’ that. In my mind, I should be carryin’ that NJFC World Heavyweight Championship around; anythin’ else is considered a failure in my eyes. But bein’ discouraged doesn’t mean I’m just goin’ to sit back and accept my lot in the company. I know what I’m capable of… I’ve shown it time and time again. I’m just glad to have the opportunity to get back out there and try and get the monkey off of my back by gettin’ back to winnin’ some wrestlin’ matches and earnin’ my way to another shot at whoever is holdin’ the NJFC World Heavyweight Championship!”
(As Shelley Silver sits down in her seat, Ryoku Naito rises from his. Once again, Madison gingerly turns towards the interviewer, struggling to hide the effects of the Last Man Standing match at 4CW’s South Beach Brawl.)
RYOKU NAITO: “That road starts with a matchup against a fresh face in NJFC, the reigning Revolution Pro Champion, D’Angelo Blackwell. He’s been very outspoken about seeking out new challenges and looking to go out against the absolute best. James Peterson is giving him the opportunity to do just that… Is there any added pressure going into a match like this?”
CHRIS MADISON: “Ask and you shall receive, right?”
(Chris chuckled as he scratched at his scruffy beard.)
CHRIS MADISON: “Listen, this is exactly the kind of matchup that D’Angelo Blackwell wanted. He’s comin’ from a company where he’s used to throwin’ his weight around. You’ve all seen it… Kid considers himself a king… But success in one company doesn’t always translate to success in others. Luckily for him, all the pressure goin’ into this match rests on my shoulders, not his… He can come out here, wrestle his ass off, and lose this match - no one would bat an eye. The same can’t be said for me. Regardless of my recent track record, I’m expected to go out there and run through this kid. That’s not goin’ to happen!”
(The crowd hums as the reporters begin whispering to each other. Madison holds his hand up, trying to get the crowd to quiet down so that he could explain.)
CHRIS MADISON: “At Tag-Team-Tropolis, the NJFC fans are goin’ to get to witness two alpha males butting heads with nothin’ but pride on the line. The Revolution Pro Champion versus the 4CW Champion. No matter what the general consensus is, when you have two guys who know what it’s like to be the top of a company, you’re goin’ to get an all out war. No one is runnin’ through anyone in this one. D’Angelo needs to understand that. I’m not some old dog out here on his last leg, holdin’ out hope that I could find a way to keep my career afloat. I love the fire I see out of this kid, but nothin’ about this matchup is goin’ to be easy for him. Eighteen years in, I can still go the distance - you saw that when I wrestled a sixty minute draw with Chandler. I’m still as tough as they come, look at me standin’ here in front of you right now after what went down against Dakota Smith. I’ve lasted this long in this business because there’s nothin’ that I can’t do!”
(Rachel Kenshin gets out of her seat after the long winded answer and flashes a friendly smile before throwing one final question Madison’s way.)
RACHEL KENSHIN: “What does D’Angelo Blackwell have to do in order to beat you?”
CHRIS MADISON: “If he’s goin’ to pull off the upset, he’s goin’ to have to check his ego at the door and wrestle the match of his career. No matter how bright this kid’s future might be, now is not the time! I’m leavin’ Tag-Team-Tropolis startin’ my path back to the NJFC World Heavyweight Championship title picture - no matter who stands in my way!”
(Frankie Morrison joins his client at the podium and once again begins clapping, handing the 4CW Championship back over to Madison before ushering him out of the room.)
