(Chandler Scott wastes no time making a beeline to the podium. Dressed to the nines, the NJFC World Heavyweight Champion adjusts his title on his shoulder before adjusting the mic.)
CHANDLER SCOTT: Thank you. This weekend marks another important match for yours truly. When you are the champion, every match is high profile. But this match in particular pits myself against arguably one of the hottest commodities in all of wrestling. Cosmo Cooper. I'm appreciative of this opportunity because to me, Cos is one of the best in our sport right now. He's got size, speed. He's a tremendous athlete. He's got "The Look". But most important? He's got drive. He's got a passion for this sport that is matched by few. And in this day and age when a lot of our peers are too busy fawning over their crush of the week on social... when a lot of our peers are too busy taking the money and no showing... when a lot of our peers are too busy chasing the bright lights instead of chasing greatness, it's a welcome sight to see a man that is simply about his craft.
(A beat)
CHANDLER SCOTT: 'How I was going to stop Cosmo Cooper?' Great question. It's a question many have asked themselves. How do you stop a man that’s been undefeated since joining the ranks of NJFC? By being dominant yourself. By outmaneuvering, outhustling, outsmarting him, like you have done to all that have tried to stop you. Cosmo is already held in high regard. I can see a scenario where in the next two years, he ascends to a plane where it’s just him as the undisputed best in the business. But today is not that day and certainly April 28 will not be that day. Nor will April 28 be the day that he is crowned NJFC World Champion.
(Chandler looks out to the sea of reporters. He gestures to someone in the front.)
GRAPPLEZONE: Do you think Cosmo Cooper is intimidated at all by this matchup?
(Chandler shakes his head)
CHANDLER SCOTT: Honestly? No. Cos knows what it's like to carry a championship. He knows what it's like to carry a promotion. He knows what it's like to go in there against renown names and bonafide legends. He's never shyed away from a challenge. So no, I don't think my opponent is going to be consumed by the moment and honestly? I'm glad he's not. I like the confidence he came in here with. Everyone should carry themselves with that confidence, whether it's rational or not. I want him to believe with every fiber in his being that he can defeat me and take my championship. He's clearly got the ability to. But having the ability to do something and actually doing it? Two totally different things.
(Another sea of hands raise up. Chandler nods to his left.)
SHELLEY SILVER: Chandler, while it's true that you wrestle for multiple promotions, even you would have to admit that you don't have the same workload that Mr. Cooper does. Some people, including Mr. Cooper himself, feel that you don't outwork him. Your thoughts?
(Chandler gives Shelley a quizzical look.)
CHANDLER SCOTT: I don't outwork him? In what way, exactly? Because if we're talking about NJFC, that's simply not true. I was the one running the gauntlet that was the Pride of Puroresu Crown and making it to the other side undefeated. I am the one that consistently proves that I am the guy here. And that's no small feat, as you can clearly see by the talent standing behind me today and the talent I've shared the stage with before. If Cos wants to wrestle for a dozen or so promotions at a time? Good for him. He wants to run up and down the roads, talking about making all the towns and wrestling 10 matches in 7 days? Be my guest. Cos has my undivided attention. Do I have his?
(Chandler motions to his right.)
NJFC AMERICA: You've heard the words from your challenger here today. Do you take anything he says as disrespect? I only ask because it's been intimated, and not just by your upcoming opponent, that maybe you aren't the right fit as NJFC's World Champion.
(Chandler smirks.)
CHANDLER SCOTT: Are we really going to go down this road again? Isn't this the same song and dance we just did with Tillman? And Madison before that? Listen. I'm no actor. You won't see me in the latest B-Movie on eVolve or Circle TV. I'm no musician. You won't see Scotty Sings The 2000s popping up on Soundcloud. I'm no model, no matter how well-lit certain pictures might be.
(This gets a laugh from the room)
CHANDLER SCOTT: I'm not trying to fool some gullible owner into letting me be the GM of his professional sports team, a job that I'm clearly underqualified for. That's other wrestler's gag. That's not my deal. You want to know what I do? I get in between those ropes and I wrestle. Damn well, might I add. And I've been doing it for the past seven years, be it the States, Europe, or now here in Japan. I've put my nose to the grindstone. I've paid my dues. I've earned my name and it wasn't by wrestling for everyone who waved a check in front of my face. I've achieved a certain stature. But I'm not complacent. Complacency doesn't have you competing at a high level in "whatever circle I'm in", as Cos so respectfully put it, despite Hall status. Complacency doesn't have you here fighting tooth and nail against the likes of the Storm's, Edwards', the G-O-N-S-A-L-V-E-S', Tillman's, Madison's and Cooper's. Drive does. Heart does. You think you're better? You think you can beat me? Fantastic. But don't ever, under any circumstance, question my desire. Because doing that? That would turn this match from a respectful contest between two of this industry's best... to something else. To my opponent, I wish him good look. If he has my number, I'll admit he's the better man. But should I win? I'll make sure to celebrate in the perfect light, just for him.
(With that, Chandler ends things by posing for the photographers with the title.)
