Are you happening to be scrolling endlessly on Facebook? Maybe on Twitter? Perhaps there just isn’t a certain video that grasps your attention on YouTube. You are a casual wrestling fan and finally something catches your attention. A new upload by New Japan Fighting Championship. One of its new signees yet to make his in ring debut had uploaded a video. The thumbnail just showed him sitting in what looked like an empty hall with a plain table before him.
You play the video and it starts…
DATED AUGUST 10th 2023
The flashing lights of cameras held by a few stage crew are going off as the doors towards the hall blew open. Stepping into the hall was indeed the newest signee to this company. Unlike most people he did not wear a suit and tie to these affairs. Instead, a comfortable white plain tshirt, the black leather jacket with the phrase that was given to him “ Big SMASH In Japan “ lettering on his back. Pair of black jeans and white/black converses on his feet. He was one for comfort instead of unneeded glamour.
He leaned back into his chair just taking a water bottle from before him elbows propped up onto the table as he awaited for the first questions. He looked about scanning the room to point to the first person who looked interesting.
ESPN : So you are granted a very special opportunity here. Facing off against many hungry individuals who all seek the same thing. How do you think you will fair even though you are in your first year of wrestling professionally?
HIDEYOSHI placed the water bottle down. Only to push back his hair in thought.
HIDEYOSHI : Well, I see it this way. Everyone in this tournament has shown some sort of ability out there. I am the wild card because nobody knows what I am capable of. The feats I have done make me seem like I am the modern day Hercules. How will they know what is fact or fiction? They need to contend with that, learn on the spot about my abilities and what I am capable and not capable of. Are they quick enough to keep up? Are they powerful enough to cut me down? These are questions my opponents will find themselves asking over and over…and that’s when their demise comes.
NJFC America : Some say you are a bit too cocky for your own good. How do you respond to that?
HIDEYOSHI laughed behind his hand.
HIDEYOSHI : Is it cocky when I have backed those words up? A baseball player who hits a home run every time he’s at the plate…does he get booed? A boxer who’s undefeated isn’t hated, but admired. Your favorite singer who puts out hit after hit…why shouldn’t I be proud of the things I have done and accomplished? You all see ego but fail to see the hours and hard work put into my dedication. You want to call me cocky for that? Then so be it.
Japan Sports : Why New Japan Fighting Championship? We know you have a contract in the states for Motor City Wrestling. What can you bring to both companies while having most of your time traveling?
HIDEYOSHI tilted his head when he heard that question. A brow raised towards the interviewer.
HIDEYOSHI : …Why Japan? Well isn’t this one of the countries most premiere wrestling companies? Why wouldn’t I want to show off infront of my own people? Get the chance to show off my abilities to those who I grew up with as they sit in the crowd. But, I get what you mean by your question…and that’s because there is a certain flame that is missing. People want to talk about how they have a fighting spirit…but seemed to have been exorcized along their way. People would rather hide behind legions of useless fodder known as stablemates and mock my culture. Some people are here as a last stop to hang up their boots. Others simply want a pay check and are fine with sitting in catering. I am neither of them.
HIDEYOSHI : You want to know what I bring? Passion, desire, pride, and a love for this sport. I’ll bring you the greatest showdowns this world has ever seen. I’ll bring you joy or I'll bring you to your knees with hate. I’ll bring anything and everything necessary to show why I belong here or anywhere I please.
Grapplezone : Well according to our sources you’ll get to prove exactly that when you take on “The Final Boss of Professional Wrestling” Vladislav. Your very first match here in NJFC is against a man who takes pleasure in using his strength to pummel people into the ground. Sources say he’s favored to win —
HIDEYOSHI : Sorry for cutting you off. But, does this look like a video game to you? The problem with naming yourself “The Final Boss” is that you're always setting yourself up for defeat. That’s the purpose of the final boss right? Beat him and win the game. Beat him and his story is over. Beat him and he’s just another cross off another fighting game off the list. Vladislav is bigger and wider, does that mean that he is stronger? No, just means it takes more time for blood to reach his brain and, when that does happen he’ll be on his back looking at the continue screen flashing before his eyes. Most forget how good Japanese people are at fighting games. I’m confident that with just a quarter I’m beating the reject M.Bison and continuing into bigger and better.
HIDEYOSHI : Now if that’s all, thank you for taking your time to come out here and joining me with this conference. Have a wonderful day.
HIDEYOSHI rise up from his chair and bowed his head towards the crowd. Finally the video soon ended as it faded to black with him extending his hand out almost dramatically turning and giving a thumbs up pose towards the flashing lights.
